Government leaders head to Singapore and Australia to explore 'Global Cities Management Issues'

The study programme, to be organised from 8-17 July, will bring together speakers from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and senior government and business leaders in Singapore and Hong Kong to engage senior leaders from the UAE on the challenges and opportunities associated with the management of global cities.

Components of the study programme include a 'Managing Global Cities Forum', held in association with Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore; a study visit to the Government of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia and, a meeting with the mentors, Australia.

Stressing the relevance of the programme, Dr. Yasar Jarrar, Executive Dean of DSG, said: 'In this rapidly changing global environment, urban decision makers face increasing challenges as well as opportunities to deliver integrated and practical solutions to the issues cities are confronted with.

'The overarching objective of this programme is to explore the issues facing urban decision makers in today's environment, broaden perspectives and provide new insights on experiences and solutions implemented in cities globally.'

The study programme will provide a mix of interactive sessions, presentations, visits, in-depth discussions and opportunities to network with senior government officials and public sector researchers.

Adel Al Shared, Director of Mohammed Bin Rashid Leadership Development Programme, commenting on the programme's value within today's global context, said: 'In an uncertain and unpredictable world, the leaders of global cities have to keep learning, adapting and innovating in order to ensure that they meet citizens' evolving needs.

'This forum will examine a framework for dynamic governance which rests on two pillars - the establishment of a supportive institutional foundation and culture and the development of proactive organisational capabilities in order to ensure the institutions' continuing relevance in a global city.'

DSG offers a range of customised and open enrolment programmes through its faculty and in cooperation with international partners. The partners include Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore, and a network of renowned experts.
