Dubai Medical College (DMC), the first medical college in the UAE, carries forward their vision of higher education for women into yet another year by successfully conducting the admission process for medical aspirants for the academic year 2007-2008. The examination saw participation from 200 applicants from 20 different nationalities. The enrollment process has been aligned with the Strategic Plan as proposed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai that aims to ensure that all nationals have access to quality education. It is noteworthy that 13 of the top students that came out of this year's secondary examination also participated in the enrollment process.

The fact that DMC is solely for girls and that DMC was started at a time when higher education for girls in the region was lagging far behind than that of the developed countries, makes DMC very unique even to this day. In recognition to this committed drive for excellence, DMC was awarded the 'Dubai Quality Appreciation Program' in 2006 and is proud to be the first medical college in UAE to be awarded this accolade.

Ever since the college opened its doors in 1986, there has been a steady increase in demand for admission to the college. The 5 year course is accredited by 'Ministry of Higher Education' and the college is enlisted in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools. The students practise their clinical rotations in government hospitals of Dubai. The college admits 60 students every year and boasts of over 600 graduates practising around the world.

When asked about the overwhelming response to the admission process, the Chief Academic Officer, Prof. Fatehia, replied that such a response is seen every year. "The credentials of applicants this year is particularly encouraging. We believe in selecting the best students who will be not just doctors, but also pioneers in the medical field. The final selection of students is based on a highly objective-structured selection process, which includes entrance test, grades of high school and the interview." she added.
