Syrian internet crackdown

Syria has blocked access to a number of websites critical of the regime, including the online versions of leading dailies, AFP reported, quoting a Syrian human rights group. Sites blocked include those of Saudi-owned Asharq Al-Awsat and Beirut-based Al-Mustaqbal newspapers. E-mail provider Hotmail has also been blocked since 17 July 2006, according to the National Organisation for Human Rights.
