Abu Dhabi Women's College installs mobile wireless LAN solutions

Trapeze Networks, the award-winning global provider of Smart Mobile wireless solutions, has announced that its Mobile Wireless LAN solutions have recently been installed at the Abu Dhabi Women's College (ADWC), in a move initiated by the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to provide students and staff with better access to online resources.

The WLAN solutions, which were installed by ICT services provider East Meets West, enable students and staff of ADWC to use mobile devices to gain access to information and network resources available on the Wired LAN, such as e-mail, internet, campus portal and streaming media.

"It is important for students to have fast and easy access to online resources from multiple locations, which will facilitate learning and the exchange of ideas, and promote a dynamic lifestyle in the campus.

To achieve this, we wanted a wireless solution that would not require us to tear out our existing wired infrastructure, and would also enable us to implement fixed mobile convergence applications in the future," said Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor, HCT.

The ADWC, which is the largest of HCT's 14 campuses in the UAE and also one of the most advanced IT colleges in the region, will now incorporate Wireless LAN in all classrooms, labs and offices on the campus.

Trapeze's WLAN solutions, which are designed to support up to 4,000 users across 55,000 square feet, include the Mobility Exchange switches distributed in the network IDF rooms, in addition to 200 Mobility Access Points mounted on ceilings.

Trapeze's RingMaster, a comprehensive wireless LAN lifecycle management tool suite, played a pivotal role in monitoring, evaluating and fine-tuning the wireless LAN, especially as the HCT IT team rolled out wireless to other buildings on campus.

The RingMaster solution enables an IT team to perform centralized planning, configuration, deployment, 24/7 monitoring, and continuous optimization of the wireless LAN infrastructure.
