The second M-Class carrier to be delivered in a month, the US$ 55 million Gulf Mews, an IMO II N2 type, 37,000 dwt multi-purpose (M-Class) vessel, cements the Dubai-headquartered company's drive to climb the global top tanker operator list.

Ahmed Essa Hareb Al Falahi, Chief Executive Officer, GEM said: "With Gulf Mews' delivery - our third ship this year - we have now reached the 10th ship delivery milestone in 32 months since inception, a feat very few companies in the Middle East, or the world, can emulate. Our eventual 19-strong fleet will be worth US$ 1.1 billion.

"With nine more ships worth US$ 480 million to be delivered before end of 2009 GEM's standing in the worldwide multi-trillion dollar tanker operator market is extremely remarkable."

Al Falahi commended the HMD workforce for achieving ahead-of-schedule deliveries on GEM's vessel orders.

"Hyundai Mipo, a global leading shipyard, is now a strategic partner in our growth. Our ongoing efforts to increase fleet safety and quality have been matched vessel to vessel by HMD workers," said Al Falahi.

"HMD understands our aim to provide environmentally-friendly, high quality, refined petroleum and chemical tankers with the latest in double-hulled technology."

Gulf Mews will have all the latest IMO stipulated mechanisms, processes and technology including an inert gas plant for full discharge capacity of the vessel - a prerequisite for oil majors.

GEM is certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance to the ISO-2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14001-2004 Environment Management System for the operational and technical management of its fleet.
