Dubai Executive Council's insurance panel briefs industry on new policy

The temporary health insurance committee established under the Dubai Executive Council today held an introductory meeting in coordination with the Dubai Health Authority to discuss with insurance industry professionals plans to introduce a comprehensive new health insurance law in the emirate.
Bin Byat said: "The health insurance committee is currently developing a framework to determine all aspects for devising the new law. Panel members also reviewed the strategies which contribute to the development of the healthcare sector in the UAE."
The briefing marks the start of an extensive consultation process organised by the Government of Dubai to engage business leaders from key sectors in improving healthcare services.
Qadi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General of Dubai Health Authority, said: "This is the start of an extended period of consultations. The steps currently being undertaken by the Executive Committee reflects its keenness to provide the best healthcare service that matches the status of Dubai as the most modern and dynamic city in a fast growing region."
In addition to this meeting, the Health Insurance Committee is contacting senior professionals in the medical insurance industry to set up a number of strategic one-on-one meetings to discuss health and medical issues. This process is expected to last six months.

Following a decree issued on April by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the 'Health Insurance Committee' (HIC) was temporarily established. Headed by His Excellency Ahmad Bin Byat, Secretary General of the Dubai Executive Council, the HIC has been assigned the task of drawing up a strategic plan that establishes a framework for health insurance policies in Dubai.
