Microsoft improves the Environment Society of Oman's IT infrastructure by donating the latest Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007

The ESO's PCs are now running on Windows Vista enhanced with the latest security features.

The ESO was officially established in March 2004 as per the ministerial decision issued by the Ministry of Social Development and by Omanis from different backgrounds representing different regions. The organization grew to having a current membership of about 400 individuals and corporate entities. ESO has various ongoing terrestrial projects in Oman that aim to increase awareness and spread understanding among people who can either damage or enhance the place where they live and work. Some of these projects include Project Wa'al, Project Shajar and Project Manadhir.

"We are dedicated to partnering with humanitarian and environmental initiatives in Oman, as part of our commitment to the countries we operate in" said Abdullah Lootah, Country Manager, Microsoft Oman. "We are providing the society with a refurbished PC running on the Windows Vista platform coupled with the latest Microsoft Office 2007 suite, to enable the society to efficiently manage their day to day operations and ongoing projects, making their impact on environment in Oman even greater"

ESO's current marine projects focus on the protection of coral reefs and conservation-based research on whales and dolphins. Other projects also include the Daymaniyat Islands Project, Satellite Tracking of Loggerhead Turtles and Mooring Buoys Campaign.

"The donation of the refurbished PC with the latest software will enable us to have a more solid IT platform and help streamline our operations," said Osamah Abudllatif, ESO Executive Director. "We have a significant number of projects across the sultanate and it's imperative that we are able to record and log data accurately in order to get a detailed understanding of how we're progressing."

In addition to donations contributed to ESO, Microsoft Oman also works with other NGOs, the Omani Government and partners to provide the latest software and technology to those in need, and empower people with ICT skills; improving their chances of employability.

ESO has other ongoing campaigns targeted at raising awareness about recycling and reducing plastic bag usage, and educating adults and children about environmental hazards with the aim to create an environmental friendly society.
