Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai appoints new consultant surgeon

Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) today announced the appointment of another new consultant surgeon, Dr. Edmondo Borasio, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turino, Italy.
With his colleague, Dr. Julian Stevens, Dr. Borasio developed a new formula (BESSt) which allows doctors to estimate corneal power after laser refractive surgery significantly more accurately than any other technique currently available in the world. A software program containing the formula (BESSt Corneal Power Calculator) has been developed and is currently in use by Ophthalmologists worldwide.
Dr. Borasio has authored 15 articles in distinguished medical journals, and is at present Principal Investigator of five studies approved by Moorfields' Ethics and Research Committee. His University of Turino graduation thesis was awarded Best Graduation Thesis in Surgical Specialities of the Academic Year 1998/99.

Outside work, Dr. Borasio is a distinguished athlete, winning the Italian Rowing Championships on three occasions and enjoying windsurfing and other water sports. He is recently married.
