Sultan Bin Sulayem tours DP World's container terminal in Brisbane

Mr Bin Sulayem, who is also the Chairman of DP World, is currently on a week-long visit to Australia. He met senior management officials at DP World's Brisbane container terminal, including Cameron Thorpe, General Manager, DP World, Brisbane.

Mr in Sulayem, who also held talks with Paul Lucas, Minister of Transport in the Queensland State Government, said: 'Australia is crucial to DP World's global operations. We are particularly proud to be part of the Port of Brisbane's plans to chart an integrated approach to development.'

The Brisbane Container Port Terminal has been recording a 12 percent annual growth rate over the past 10 years. This robust trend is expected to continue over the next five years.

The Port of Brisbane is at the centre of the Australia Trade Coast, the country's fastest-growing economic development area. It is a marketing partnership between the Queensland Government, the city of Brisbane, Brisbane airport and its seaport.

Mr Bin Sulayem said: 'Brisbane Port is like DP World's Flagship Terminal, the Jebel Ali Container Port, which has witnessed continuous growth over the last decade. Every year we have added nearly 2 million TEU's to the Jebel Ali terminal, which means the surrounding infrastructure needed to be improved constantly. Jebel Ali is the acknowledged logistics hub of the Middle East.'

The DP World-operated container terminal on Fisherman Island is part of the main port complex, the only purpose-built, capital-city, inter-modal port complex in Australia.

Port facilities extend upriver for about 15km and include bulk commodity and general cargo wharves, a cruise terminal, and a dockyard facility.

Each year over 2,600 ships exchange over 26 million tonnes of cargo over the port's wharves. This activity currently generates a total annual contribution to the Queensland state economy of Australian $770 Million (US $ 671.75 Million).

In Australia DP World operates container terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle, together with automotive and general stevedoring and landside logistics operations in each state.
