Intercoil receives ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 accreditation

With this achievement, Intercoil is the first mattress manufacturer in the Middle East to be honored with such distinctive accreditations.

According to Mr Hassan Al-Hazeem, Managing Director of Intercoil International, "Our ISO14001 programs are evident of our continuous dedication in maintaining balance between operations and preservation of the environment. Our environment management system covers all areas from general waste management to land contamination control and energy resource management."

Among basic waste management procedures undertaken by Intercoil is the segregation of identified production wastes. In an effort to reduce as much waste as possible, 61% of its waste is reconditioned by third party scrap buyers while 8% is recycled in house to produce high density foam.

In line with Intercoil's corporate policy of being pro-active, occupational health and safety programs have always been in place, even before the OHSAS 18001 accreditation. Mr Hassan said, "Our staff and general workforce undergo training on fire awareness and prevention control by a leading fire safety organization. In-house briefings, which include mock fire drills and proper use of fire fighting equipments, are conducted periodically."
In addition, Intercoil has also established a HSE (health, safety and environment) Committee comprising staff from the production and administration offices who meet regularly to review and evaluate current safety requirements.

New employees are also subject to safety orientation programs and refresher briefings as part of the Committee's commitment to provide constant awareness on safety issues.
