Dubai Fashion Fiesta makes glamorous debut in DSS 2007 today

DSS 2007 is set to witness the debut of a glitzy fashion event on Thursday, July 26, as part of the tenth year celebrations.

Featuring renowned celebrity designers and international models, Dubai Fashion Fiesta 2007 will be held between July 26 and July 28 in Hall 5 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Organised by Emirates Vision during the ongoing DSS 2007, the main sponsor of the event is Paris Gallery, while the associate sponsor is 106.2 HUM FM. Gulf Technical Printing, Showtech, Quick Photo Studio, Joyalukkas, Franck Provost, and UMI Pearls are co-sponsors. The official hotel for the fashion gala is Hyatt Regency.

Launched to bring together designers, buyers, and fashion enthusiasts, Dubai Fashion Fiesta or DFF is slated to attract wide media attention due to the inclusion of high profile participants. The larger aim of the fashion extravaganza is to contribute in promoting Dubai as the fashion hub in the region.

'The DSS involvement in this spectacular event aims at enhancing the position of the city of Dubai as the fashion hub in the region. Dubai Fashion Fiesta is aimed at bring together designers, buyers, the media, and fashion aficionados. 'DSF and DSS have always embraced and supported global fashion events and DSS 2007 should be the ideal platform for launching Dubai Fashion Fiesta as it comes in line with the major goals of DSS which is motivating the retail sector in the summer and establishing Dubai as a main destination for tourism and family entertainment,' she added.

Choreographed by Rohit Verma and Mohammed Aslam, the opening show today, July 26, features renowned Parisian designer Lloyd Klein and celebrity Indian designer Satya Paul.

Initially trained in architecture, Lloyd Klein presented his first women's couture collection in Paris in 1994. In late 2006, he opened his new 7,700 square-foot US flagship store in Los Angeles. Lloyd Klein was an architect before launching into fashion design in the nineties. His goal was to create an elegant ambience that reflects his overall lifestyle vision and will have the feeling of a true old-world Parisian Salon. Some of his well known clients include Ivana and Ivanka Trump, Princess Anne de Bourbon Sicile, Halle Berry, Jessica Simpson, Renee Zellwegger, Christina Aguilera, and Faye Dunaway, to name a few.

The Satya Paul Design Studio was started in 1985, at a time when the Indian fashion industry was still at a nascent stage. It immediately established itself with the originality and quality of its printed fabrics and garments. Satya Paul has swiftly grown into one of the few professionally run designer brands that effectively competes with other high-end international fashion labels.

Launched in 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises was conceived as the foremost family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of GCC. Targeted at visitors from outside the UAE and within the country, DSS has been a major entertainment and shopping attraction since its inception and witnessed 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006 compared to 600,000 in 1998. The event has succeeded in positioning Dubai as the leading summer destination in the region.

Organised by government departments with the cooperation of the public sector till last year, the ten-week event is a celebration of different surprises that offer visitors and shoppers the perfect family entertainment opportunity and the ideal combination of shopping and adventure. Over the years DSS has hosted numerous surprises such as Food, Water, Global, Ice, Flower, Sports, Heritage, Arts, Techno, Cartoons, Colour, Sweets, Knowledge, and Back-2-School. The summer event lays special emphasis on children, who are provided all the opportunities to hone their skills while enjoying a fun-packed ten weeks of activities. DSS also has its own mascot, Modhesh, the ever smiling brand ambassador who embodies everything that the event stands for - fun, excitement, brightness and unlimited joy for children.

Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 2.57 billion in 2006 is a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer. Into its tenth year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment.
