Dubai Real Estate Institute to partner with University of Southern California

Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI), the region's first academic institute for real estate studies, today signed a memorandum of understating with the School of Planning and Development at the University of Southern California (USC) in the US.
The two institutions will work jointly to offer academic as well as executive education programmes and professional training in real estate during the upcoming academic year to address pressing issues in the industry and offer cutting edge ideas and approaches. In addition, the cooperation will extend to cover important research initiatives in the region.
Dr. Mohamed Al Shehi, Managing Director, DREI, said: "The MOU with the School of Planning and Development at USC moves us closer to our goal of establishing quality real estate education in the region.
"The University of Southern California is one of the world's leading private research universities and we are honoured to establish a partnership with such a prestigious institution, which adds a rich academic tradition in real estate education and expertise to the region."
The mission of the School of Planning and Development at USC is to educate leaders and widen knowledge base, improve problem solving capabilities to tackle the most critical issues. The ultimate goal is to contribute in a practical way to the betterment of communities.
The School of Planning and Development is a renowned contributor to the university's reputation and most of the research is conducted through its centres, institutes and groups.
The new partnership will strengthen DREI's position as the leading real estate institute in the Middle East, while signifying its commitment to enhance the competitiveness of the real estate industry and developing the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

As the first specialised real estate academic institution in the region, the Dubai Real Estate Institute aims to enrich and broaden the knowledge and competency base of real estate industry professionals and managers. The institute, which will commence courses in the academic year 2007-2008, operates in partnership with several international real estate universities to provide high value learning experiences to its students.
Addressing strategic growth opportunities, competitive challenges and operational imperatives of the real estate industry in the MENA region, Asia, and Turkey, the institute will offer graduate programmes as well as professional development courses. These courses will focus on real estate development processes, asset and portfolio management, real estate valuation and appraisal, real estate finance and investment, international real estate, risk management, real estate law, urban economics and project management.
In addition, the institute will provide domain specific courses as diverse as real estate strategic and innovation management, strategic alliances, finance and capital markets, market analysis, and the management of specific properties such as residential, industrial, retail and office space.
All of the institute's offerings will be delivered in partnership with high ranking, academically accredited international universities using world-class faculty, advanced knowledge and practice, and state of the art facilities.
