Opec revenues hit $649bn in 2006

An Opec report showed the group's oil and gas export revenue grew 22% to a record $649bn in 2006, Reuters reports. Saudi Arabia made $194bn from petroleum exports, including crude oil, condensates and natural gas liquids - a rise of 20% - according to Opec's Annual Statistical Bulletin. US oil prices reached a record high $78.40 in July 2006, a figure which is also being threatened this year.
