The world-leading architect of Foster & Partners will present a keynote speech on the subject of sustainable architecture of the future, with insights into the world's first attempt to build a zero carbon zero waste city -using a vast range of technological breakthroughs for the future of environmental sustainability.
Rooted in a zero carbon ambition, the city will be car free, powered by renewable energy with services digitally managed and providing real time information. With a maximum distance of 200m to the nearest transport link and amenities, the compact network of streets will encourage walking and is complemented by a personalised rapid transport system. Shaded walkways and narrow streets will create a pedestrian friendly environment in the context of Abu Dhabi's extreme climate. Surrounding land will contain wind, photovoltaic farms, research fields and plantations, enabling the city to be entirely self-sustaining.
Sultan Al Jaber said, 'By attempting the first carbon neutral city in the world, Masdar is demonstrating its commitment to change the way the world understands energy and sustainable resource utilization. One day all cities will be built like this.'
Architects, civil engineers, developers and town planners will be able to benefit from a special two-day package to attend the summit with a number of conference sessions specifically aimed at sustainable and environmentally friendly construction developments.
Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to view the model of the city along with the up-to-date plans for development on Masdar's stand within the WFES exhibition.
