Teshkeel brings new heroes to Indonesia and Malaysia
- Kuwait: Thursday, August 02 - 2007 at 16:04
- PRESS RELEASE
Teshkeel Media Group, KSC, announced today that it will partner with leading Indonesian publisher Femina Group to license its award-winning comic book series, THE 99, throughout the world's most populous Muslim nation.
"Indonesia is the fourth-largest country on Earth in terms of population, and its population is also predominately Muslim, so it is a logical progression from our current operations in the Middle East and North Africa," said Teshkeel CEO Naif Al-Mutawa. "Several companies expressed interest in publishing THE 99 in this territory, but Femina's professionalism and proven success with titles like Reader's Digest and Men's Health convinced us that they were the ideal partner to spread the legend of THE 99 in this key market."
Femina Group Director Svida Alisjahbana said, "We really embrace THE 99's spirit and are excited to publish a story that teaches positive lessons to Muslim children." She added, "A large portion of Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims consist of progressive and modern Muslims so we believe that there is huge potential for THE 99 to become successful here."
Femina Group - one of the region's leading magazine publishers - will launch the local version of THE 99 at the end of September, in time for the beginning of the Ramadan fasting season. Under the terms of the agreement, THE 99 will be made available in bookstores, department stores and newsstands throughout Indonesia and Malaysia.
Headquartered in Kuwait, Teshkeel Comics' stated goal is for its flagship title, THE 99, to bring positive entertainment to young readers not only in the Middle East and North Africa, but also throughout the world. "Having also recently announced plans to bring THE 99 to the United States, our partnership with Femina is another significant step in making THE 99 a truly worldwide brand," concluded Al-Mutawa.
