- PRESS RELEASE
The Information Technology Authority's Community IT Training pilot project (CITT), aims to enhance digital literacy within the community, will be launched at the Municipality Recreation Centre in Salalah on August 4, 2007.
The Initiative aims to provide ICT training opportunities to the citizens of Oman in order for them to fully participate in a digital, knowledge-based society.
The CITT pilot project is a key platform for delivering digital literacy training programmes to the community through the use of Community Knowledge Centres (CKC).
CKCs will offer a digital literacy curriculum designed to reduce computer illiteracy and bridge the digital divide by providing free and/or low cost education in computer and Internet basics.
The ITA will mark the rollout of its CKCs with the launch of a pilot project at its training centre in Salalah, set up as part of the Authority's participation in the Salalah Khareef Festival. The Omani nationals offering this training are trained by the ITA for this activity.
Through this pilot project, ITA aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this project which is planned to be launched in several cities within the Sultanate soon. This launch is another significant milestone in bridging the digital divide within the community which is one of the main pillars of the Digital Oman strategy.
eOman embodies ITA's vision for transforming the Sultanate into a sustainable Knowledge Society by leveraging Information and Communication Technologies to enhance government services, enrich businesses and empower individuals.
It consists of a wide range of initiatives that are to improve the efficiency of government services, enhance the activities of businesses and empower individuals with skills and knowledge, to create a knowledge-based economy.
