The total number of users crossed the 121,400 mark in the first week of August, seven months after the January launch of the first bundle of eServices, the division reported.

The DED's online 'Transaction Status' service registered the highest usage, with 34,228 customer queries, followed by 'Company Lookup' (20,631), 'Search Trade Names' (17,400), 'Number of Licenses per Person Report' (14,160), 'Business Set up Simulator' (11,728), 'Activity Search' (10,910), 'License Renewal Cost Estimator' (6,913), 'Fines for a License Report' (3,882) and the 'Sales and Promotions' service (1,641).

"The DED is committed to playing its part in fulfilling Dubai's aspirations of becoming an Internet-enabled economy," said Abdullah Saif Al Kaabi, Acting Head of the Information Technology Division at DED. "The significant increase in the number of eServices users is an indication of our success in this area."

"Following the directives of the Dubai Government to transform the emirate into a knowledge economy and in keeping with our related strategy to provide value-added services to customers, we are always keen to facilitate business registration procedures and provide an investor-friendly environment," added Al Kaabi.

The DED launched the nine eServices, which can be accessed at www.dubaided.gov.ae/eservices, in January 2007 to facilitate business registration procedures and provide an efficient, simplified environment for investors in Dubai. The initiative is part of DED's commitment to fulfil the emirate's eGovernment policies.

Informative and easy-to-use, the web services feature descriptive help text, Arabic/English support and a user-friendly layout and design. Internet users can access the information without having to go through any registration process.

More online services will be available on the website in the next few months offering primarily government relationship officers and company owners the opportunity to handle transactions online. Six more services are scheduled to be operational before the end of the year.

Since the website's launch, the number of online visitors clocked 142,373 from the UAE, 3,452 from the United Kingdom, 3,351 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 2,706 from the USA, 2,623 from the Arab Republic of Egypt and 1,880 from Algeria.
