3GPP LTE, one of the most advanced mobile communication technologies to date, is currently undergoing 4G technology standardisation by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
This is the most likely technology to become the 4G standard, as many of the world's major operators and telecommunications companies are members of LSTI. These companies include Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Ericsson, Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia, Siemens and NTT DoCoMo.
'LG's membership in LSTI will allow us to consolidate our technology leadership beyond 3G and strengthen partnerships with leading operators and telecommunications companies,' said Mr. K. W. Kim, President of LG electronics - Middle East and Africa. 'LG will also play a prominent role in the association to accelerate the adoption of 3GPP LTE technology.'
The technology would allow LG's handsets to download at 100Mbps and upload data at 50Mbps while users are on the move. LG already demonstrated its 3GPP LTE technology in cooperation with Nortel at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain in February 2007.
LG leaps toward 4G mobile technology by joining LSTI
Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics, a worldwide technology leader in mobile communications, announced that it has become the first Korean company to join the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI*), an association promoting the early adoption of the Third Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution technology, or 3GPP LTE**.
