Additions to the programme allow students to follow a pathway through the M. Ed which is devoted to Information and Communication Technology. Developed in the University, this new programme stream has won official backing, in the form of initial accreditation approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

It is designed to cater to the increasing interest in combining technology and pedagogy. Students will be encouraged to think about how innovative technology can be used in teaching and learning. More broadly, the new programme stream closely corresponds to some of the economic and occupational demands which pertain to the U.A.E. region.

Research conducted in the early years of the 21st Century suggests slow and uneven utilisation of new technologies in the classroom. More recently this has changed, not least through the dedication of teaching staff willing to experiment and innovate.

"By introducing a specialist master's programme in this area, BUiD is determined to increase awareness of technologically assisted thinking and learning," said Dr. Mick Randall, Senior Lecturer in TESOL and Head of the Institute of Education, British University in Dubai.

"We also hope it will enhance career opportunities for teachers and encourage those with an IT background to consider teaching too," he added.

The M. Ed in ICT deals primarily with the pedagogy of all aspects of IT. Areas of study include blended learning in the classroom, uses of the internet in learning, management of ICT, web design, and ICT support for distance and open learning.

Applications for the next programme intake in October 2007 are now open.
