During the event's proceedings, held on August 19th & 20th 2007, Mr. Palmer spoke in detail about his tour around the world which he is currently undertaking in a Solar-powered vehicle - the solar taxi. Arriving in Jordan just last week as part of his tour covering 50 countries and 5 continents, Mr. Palmer presented the Solar Taxi to media representatives present at the event, while also granting them the opportunity to test drive it.
Welcoming Mr. Palmer at the event and to Jordan, HRH Princess Sumaya Bint El-Hassan said during the conference that she commends Mr. Palmer for the sincere interest he had taken to conserve energy resources and the environment. 'We hope that Mr. Palmer's trip to Jordan serves as a true example for each and every Jordanian citizen, for we at the RSS see in Mr. Palmer a role model we hope one day we can all follow in the footsteps of. As citizens of this country, we can all walk that extra mile to save our natural renounces and treasures, for in these trying times, times in which our global environment suffers the risks of global warming, and pollution, It should be the priority of each and every organization forming part of the private and public sectors of Jordan and the world at large to work hard towards saving the ecosystem.'
'We at the RSS view Mr. Palmer's visit as one filled with learning experiences for us all, for his example serves to compliment the efforts we make at the organization to preserve the energy resources of Jordan,' she said.
Mr. Palmer's trip is aimed at making a bold and clear statement against global warming and at showing the world that there are more environmentally friendly sources of energy we could all adopt in our daily lives. The solar-powered vehicle has space for an additional person, which Mr. Palmer will use to give various passengers a ride along the way, Throughout the trip, the solar taxi is being accompanied by German student Thomas Gottschalk who is travelling in a conventional vehicle.
Setting off from Luzern (Switzerland) on July 3rd 2007, his journey round the world will take at least 12 months. He will be travelling through all kinds of different countries, meeting new and interesting people and, some of the time, taking passengers with him.
Louis Palmer will be staying in Jordan for about 10 days. Prior to his visit to the Kingdom, he passed Germany, Czech Republik, Austria, Slowakia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Syria, and from Jordan he plans to continue his journey to Saudi Arabia, Emirates and then to India.
In this regard, the Swiss Embassy in Amman will be organizing several activities with the various Jordanian organizations working in the field of Environmental Protection including the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, the Royal Scientific Society and the Friends of Environment organization as well as with the Royal Automobile Museum and the Theodor Schneller School.
It is worth mentioning that this visit is supported by the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, UNDP environmental Program and The Jordanian Ministry of Environment.

Notes and media contacts
RSS is the largest applied research institution, consultation and technical service provider in Jordan, with more than 600 members of staff. There are seven technical centers and departments housing 38 specialized laboratories: RSS renders many services to Jordanian society and the region at large in its specialist fields. It actively supports the Jordanian government by formulating opinions on issues involving research and technology policy, and is an adviser on new issues and controversial problems (such as the chronic water shortage, food and beverages, technical specifications, etc.). It represents Jordan on scientific and technical committees and boards and helps with the development of policies, strategies, and measures. RSS also provides expert opinion on such issues as building codes. Its research activity also draws attention to health and social problems, for example contamination of mothers' milk by pesticides. The training that RSS offers is also of substantive benefit to society, for example the ICDL certification program is helping to create a new class of computer-literate teachers and public employees, which would reflect positively on the education system and government bureaucracy. RSS is active in building schools in remote areas with convenient specifications. Such projects are usually shunned by the private sector because of low profitability.Contact:
