Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage to participate at Frankfurt Book Fair

The participation of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, ADACH, in Frankfurt International Book Fair on 10th until 14th October 2007, comes in the framework of its trend to enhance the cultural heritage, values and traditions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates, and its interaction with cultural heritage of other nations.

H.H. Juma'a Al Qubaisi, Assistant Undersecretary for National Library and Director of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, said that Frankfurt Book Fair, the biggest in the world, is considered an excellent opportunity to promote the important cultural projects the ADACH has launched on regional and international levels.

Projects such as Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Al Kalima project for translation from and into Arabic, Middle East International Film Festival, Abu Dhabi Film-making Committee, Film Academy, Arabic Poetry Academy, and Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will be introduced to western media.

The last Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which was held on 31st March through 7th April 2007 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, was of high quality and attracted 400 publishers from 46 countries. It was visited by more than 400 thousand people.

The innovated heritage stand of ADACH will display hundreds of its books, audio and electronic publications covering various fields of knowledge, in addition to the Poetry Anthology which comprises more than three million lines of poetry. It will also display cultural magazines published by ADACH such as: Sha'ar Al Million, Prince of Poets and Shawati. The Book Fair is an opportunity to promote the tangible and intangible heritage of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which ADACH is doing its best to record it as a human heritage at UNESCO.

Frankfurt Book Fair is the most international activity that promotes cultural awareness and builds bridges with other cultures. It provides a meeting place for intellectuals to exchange ideas and for publishers to sign copyrights agreements.

The Cooperative Agreement between ADACH and Frankfurt Book Fair promotes strategy to develop all aspects of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. It will make Abu Dhabi a centre of book industry. Workshops in Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt are being held to activate cooperation between the two international book fairs. They study and evaluate the last Abu Dhabi Book Fair. They devise new plans for new promising projects to enhance publications and make the Emirate of Abu Dhabi a leading centre for book industry in the Middle East and the world.
