This short A-Z sketch of the players and projects involved in Dubai real estate starts with an A-M listing. But we apologise in advance for the many omissions which are inevitable given the frantic growth of the past few years.

A: Asteco is one of the original Dubai letting and latterly estate agents with a reputation for selectively judging its sales portfolio.

B: Better Homes is the other long-established Dubai letting and now real estate agency which has expanded recently into India and publishes its own real estate listings.

C: Cluttons joins FPD Savills as major UK agencies in Dubai.

D: Dubai Properties is a wholly owned Dubai Government entity responsible for the 40-plus towers of the Jumeirah Beach Residence; The Lagoons, another massive residential project facing The Dubai Creek; and the Business Bay, the new high-rise commercial district next to the Burj Dubai and Dubai International Financial Centre.

E: Emaar Properties, developer of the Emirates Hills villa district, Dubai Marina, Arabian Ranches and Downtown Dubai which surrounds the Burj Dubai, about to become the world's tallest building and the Dubai Mall.

F: Al Futtaim is developer of the massive Dubai Festival City site on the Dubai Creek, which includes a Four Seasons Hotel and Inter-Con alongside Ikea and auto distributors.

G: Green Community by Union Properties is a satellite community in the desert near to the Jebel Ali Free Zone, now undergoing expansion.

H: HSBC became the first global bank to offer mortgages in Dubai and has steadily expanded its lending criteria to include most of the top developments in the city.

I: International City is a sprawling development at the end of the Dubailand theme park project which will provide thousands of units of affordable accommodation themed by countries of the world.

J: Jumeirah Beach Residence comprises more than 40 towers on the Dubai Marina beachfront and 6,500 apartments are being delivered in phases this year.

K: Kinnarps of Sweden is a leading global office fit-out company now with a booming order book as companies grow in Dubai.

L: Limitless is a spin-off from Dubai World as a sister developer to Nakheel, with Downtown Jebel Ali, next to the new JXB airport, its largest project.

M: Meadows, Springs and the Lakes comprise more than 7,000 freehold villas in the Emirates Hills district behind the Dubai Marina.
