Emirates Post had a strong presence at the prestigious event through a kiosk showcasing UAE stamps and an impressive stand of the Emirates Philatelic Association (EPA) bringing together collections of UAE philatelists.

"A Glance at Dubai Postal History", a philatelic collection of Omer Mohammed Ahmed, Exhibition Coordinator at Emirates Post and Honorary Secretary of EPA, bagged the Vermeil medal at the event.

Other winners were Muhammad Javaid (Large Silver medal for his collection 'Great Britain Pre-Stamp Postmarks 1771-1840), Khaled Abdul Mughni (Large Vermeil medal for 'Kuwait Postal History under Indian Postal Administration'), Faleh Mubarak Al Malagheeth (silver medal for Postal History of Das Island), Nasser Bin Ahmed Al Serkal (silver bronze for 'Stamp Collection - A Passion' and Abdul Aziz Al Muslim (silver bronze for 'The Post in Emirates in the Past).

Mr. Abdulla Tayeb Khoory, President of Emirates Philatelic Association and Mr. Khalid Ali Al-Omeira, EPA board member, were appointed as jury members for the exhibition. This is the first time that UAE participants were selected as jury members in any international stamp exhibition.

The prestigious exhibition was inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, in the presence of the Director General of Thailand Post and several VIPs and diplomats from the participating countries. Princess Maha visited the UAE stand and admired the exhibits.

"Emirates Post and Emirates Philatelic Association did the UAE proud by winning accolades and medals at the major international philatelic exhibition," commented Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post. "The event helped promote not only our stamps but, more importantly, gave exposure to our culture."

Sultan Al Suwaidi, Head of Philately Section at Emirates Post, said the event helped UAE participants learn from other philatelists and also gave Emirates Post an opportunity to study the logistics and other aspects of organizing world-class exhibitions.

The last Asian International Stamp Exhibition was held in Dubai in November 2006 on the sidelines of the UPU Strategy Conference 2006 and was hailed as a major success by FIAP. The 12th GCC Stamp Exhibition was also a part of the Exhibition.
