"We are moving ahead full steam with the realignment of Gulf Air and this improved package is our appreciation for the flight deck and cabin crews' hard work, dedication and commitment to further strengthen the Gulf Air brand," says Gulf Air Board of Directors Chairman Mahmood Al Kooheji.

At an ordinary general assembly meeting at Gulf Air headquarters, the board, including members from the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman, also approved the company account for 2006.

Gulf Air Acting Chief Executive Björn Näf, who is the driving force behind the proposal on the new package for the cockpit and cabin crew, welcomed the board's swift decision to approve the compensation as another phase of adjustments, which began in June.

"We have revisited the compensation packages for our cockpit and cabin crew and we thank the board for giving our proposal a swift go ahead to align with market standards," says Mr. Näf.

For pilots, the new package includes significant increases to housing and schooling allowances. In addition, a new seniority system will be introduced, which will be clear and transparent.

"We have received a very positive response on these new packages which is in line with market standards and the overall economic standing of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is the leading financial centre in the Middle East," says Mr. Näf.

The company also has plans to install a performance appraisal system in line with Gulf Air's strategy to boost transparency, people development and to prepare the company for future growth.

"We have the full backing of the board and Gulf Air is marching ahead and in the business to grow."
