Iraq expects telco boost

Iraq's Minister of Communications Mohammed Allawi has said the award of three mobile phone licences to MTC, Korek Telecom and Asiacell will give the telco sector in the troubled nation a massive boost, reported Reuters. Allawai said that inter-connectivity will now exist and coverage will improve 'dramatically'. He said the fact the licences cost more than $3.7bn in total at auction showed the potential in Iraq's telecommunications industry.
