  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, August 26 - 2007 at 11:33
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Honourable Minister of Health, H.E. Humaid Mohamed Al Qutami, is scheduled to inaugurate and address the premier healthcare event in the UAE capital - Abu Dhabi Medical Congress.

The Congress held from September 2-4 September, 2007 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, will feature an extensive conferences programme and an exhibition of healthcare equipment featuring the latest technology, some of which is being introduced for the first time in this region.

The Honourable Minister, H.E. Humaid Mohamed Al Qutami, will also inaugurate the co-located exhibition and address the inaugural session of the Healthcare Insurance Conference, which aims at closely focusing on the various challenges, regulations, and increasing customer demands in the healthcare insurance sector within the UAE as well as across the Middle East.

The region's healthcare insurance sector is growing at over 21 percent annually and the premium growth has outstripped that of major industrialised countries. As the GCC countries spotlight healthcare insurance regulatory plans, the Healthcare Insurance Conference offers an ideal platform for both insurance professionals as well as those within the healthcare industry to examine and debate the various issues that impact them.

The Healthcare Insurance Conference aims to deliberate key issues including quality healthcare cover for all; the challenges in implementation and monitoring mandatory healthcare insurance in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and the requirements for becoming a licensed healthcare insurance provider in Abu Dhabi under the recent laws.

During the four day insurance forum, there will be significant updates from the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and the UAE Ministry of Health. The event is supported by Daman and Waseel, key industry players who have been actively involved in the implementation and monitoring of the healthcare insurance regulations.

Waseel which was established as the first medical insurance Application Service Provider (ASP) in the region, provides information technology solutions to the Saudi medical insurance industry. It operates a highly secure Internet-based "business-to-business" portal offering professional IT and e-business solutions to the regional Healthcare and Medical Insurance Payers and Providers.

National Health Insurance Company - Daman, is the first specialized national health insurance company to be formed in the UAE. Daman was established by the Abu Dhabi Government to provide the compulsory health insurance plan for expatriates and will have exclusive access to the public providers in Abu Dhabi.

The Healthcare Insurance Congress as part of the Abu Dhabi Medical Congress is organised by IIR Middle East and offers a comprehensive medical event covering the major topics in the healthcare industry today including Patient Safety & Infection Control, Emergency Medical Services & Disaster Management and Primary Healthcare.

The AACME Designates this conference and workshop for a preliminary maximum of 20.25 hours of the category-1 credit of the AACME designation.
