The event was the first of a monthly series of talks for ophthalmic practitioners.

Participants received training credit for their attendance, in line with the Ministry of Health's Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme, a government mandate aimed to promote further training for practitioners in the healthcare industry and consequently provide patients with safer healthcare standards.

MEHD's CEO and Medical Director, Dr. Chris Canning, spoke on the topic of new medical treatments for vascular eye disease, and specialist surgeon Dr. Edmondo Borasio spoke on the principles of measuring eyes accurately prior to cataract surgery.

Dr. Canning said, "Moorfields London has trained many of the specialists in the United Kingdom through similar seminars, and we at Moorfields Dubai are keen to meet our colleagues locally in these semi-formal sessions so that we can learn from each other. We will draw on the research resources of our parent facility as well as the world-renowned specialists we have been able to attract to the UAE.

"Moorfields is committed to Dubai on a long-term basis, and we support the Ministry of Health's programme to raise health care standards across the Emirates."

MEHD opened on the 4th July, and will officially launch on September 5, 2007.
