Alstom lands Fujairah deal

French transport and engineering firm Alstom has led a consortium which has won a $2.2bn contract to build a desalination plant at Qidfa in Fujairah, reported the Dow Jones newswires. Alstom's share of the deal amounts to $1.4bn and will centre on providing a GT26 turbine. The plant, which will boost water and electricity supplies in the northern emirates, should be operational by mid 2010.
