HTC sponsors GCC Champions League

HTC Corp., the world's leading provider of Microsoft® Windows Mobile®-based smart devices, announced recently that it will be one of the official sponsors of the GCC Champions League football tournament that will be held starting August 26, 2007 till January 7, 2008 in the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.

HTC's decision to involve itself with the hugely popular football tournament falls in line with its commitment to support major sporting events in the region.

Kevin Chen, General Manager, HTC Middle East, Africa and CIS, said, "Football is by far the favourite sport in the Middle East, and the region has produced several world-class players over the years. As one of the main sponsors of the GCC Champions League, we hope to contribute towards the development of local sporting talent. Also, since this event is among the most popular football tournaments in the GCC, we hope to benefit from the ensuing brand mileage and visibility for the HTC brand."

The GCC Champions League is a tournament that decides the best football club in the GCC region. Twelve clubs are taking part in the event this year and the teams will play across three countries.

The 12 clubs representing the six Gulf countries in the tournament include, Al Hilal and Al Ittifaq (Saudi Arabia), Al-Sharjah and Al-Jazira (UAE), Al-Wakra and Um Salal (Qatar), Al Mahraq and Al Nijma (Bahrain) Al-Kuwait and Al-Arabi (Kuwait), and Al-Nasr and Muscat (Oman). Saudi Arabia hold the record for most championships won in this competition, and Al Ittifaq are the defending champions.
