DSA and Right to Play reintroduce sport and play for kindergarten children in public schools

Dubai School Agency (DSA), the first agency of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), teamed up with Right to Play on a pilot project that will re-introduce sport and play for tiny tots in two kindergarten public schools.

Twenty-five kindergarten teachers in the two chosen schools were trained by Right to Play on the new curriculum and ways of implementing it.

RTP is an athlete-driven international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play as a tool for development of children and youth in the world.

Fatma Al Marri, CEO of the Dubai School Agency said, "Sports in kindergartens were taken off the curriculum some years ago. We are glad to re-introduce the activity in conjunction with Right to Play. Children must play in order to develop optimally. The pilot project will be on in the schools until the end of the year, after which, it will be implemented in all public schools depending on its success the results of the evaluation."

Ahmed AbdulRahman Project Manager, Right to Play said, "25 teachers are being trained on the new curriculum that highlights the development of life skills through sport and play. The curriculum is designed to complement and enhance the current kindergarten program.
The activities in this curriculum guide introduce students to the importance of life long physical activity and an active life style. The activities develop a positive attitude and encourage participation in cooperative and team games."

Teachers will select and teach activities from the guide that will support the specific needs of their young students. The implementation of the pilot project will be completed in September. Evaluation of the two schools will be done at the end of year after which the curriculum will be fine-tuned, if required, before it is implemented in all the public schools in Dubai.
