ADTA invites ICCA President Leigh Harry to speak on value of business tourism

As part of their strategy to target business tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has become an active member and supporter of ICCA, the International Congress and Convention Association, one of the most prominent organisations in the world of international meetings.

It is the only association that comprises a membership representing the main specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events. With over 800 members in 80 countries worldwide, it is certainly the most global organisation within the meetings industry. ICCA has offices in the Netherlands, Malaysia, U.S.A. and Uruquay. There are many membership benefits, including comprehensive statistical lead information in regards to bidding on major congresses and conventions. Another major benefit for members is the global ranking for meetings, in which UAE ranked 56 in 2006.

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has a mission to create a vibrant Business Tourism environment with strong industry players, robust alliances and world class infrastructure so that Abu Dhabi can deliver best practice MICE business successfully and provide the resulting benefits to its stakeholders.

As a result part of our role at ADTA is to educate the industry on the value and importance of business tourism and to raise the quality standards and improve and develop the infrastructure.

Seminar participants were able to benefit from Harry's wealth of experience in the business tourism industry. He shared insight into the global trends of business tourism and translated those trends into opportunities for Abu Dhabi both tangible and intangible.

Harry also spoke on the profile of the Business Tourism buyer, their expectations quality service standards and product services.

"One of our goals is to drive Abu Dhabi further up the ICCA ranking in terms of hosting meetings", says Ahmed Hussein, Director of Product Development, "It is important for our stakeholders to keep ADTA informed by provided relevant statistics on a regular basis, which we can submit to ICCA and with this information we can not only measure our performance against our competitors but also measure ADTA's contribution to this performance."

ADTA is bidding on the 2011 World ICCA Congress in conjunction with the Dubai Convention Bureau, under the theme "A Tale of Two Cities - A United Vision". These initiatives will enhance continuous cooperation and complement tourism efforts between all cities in UAE.

About Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority
Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), established by Ruler's Decree in September 2004, is a statutory body with wide ranging responsibilities for building the emirate's tourism industry. Its Chairman is HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan and Director General is HE Mubarak Al Muhairi.

The ADTA's mandate covers three main areas:

•Destination marketing - the ADTA, both independently and in association with other public and private sector organisations in Abu Dhabi's tourism community, actively markets the destination and its attractions to the local, regional and international travel trade, media and general public
