The awards have been organized by Dubai Quality Group to recognize the best implemented practices in energy conservation and management that showcase innovative, cost effective and replicable energy efficiency measures.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday to grant the awards for winners and the Major Energy Project runner up Award was given to a Dubai World project in Palm Jumeirah in recognition of its innovation in energy conservation and management.
Representing Dubai World, Mr. Abdul Qader Obaid Ali, Director Group Internal Audit and Business Excellence, Dubai World, said:
"Dubai World's top priorities are to cluster energy businesses in an environment that cultivate innovation. Conserving Energy is a major pillar of Dubai World's industrial activity. Every year we develop and implement environmental programmes in all Dubai Worlds' companies and projects. We fully support this award programme because it ambitiously tackles one of the main challenges of industrial activity which is efficient energy use."
"We have the technological know-how and the resources to eliminate oil inefficiency to ensure a more secure New Energy Future. Our mission isn't just to ensure the implementation, but also to reward the smartest in efficient use of energy," He added.
After receiving the award, Mr. Abdul Rahman Kalantar, Director, The Design Group, Nakheel, said: "Our modular approach proves to be successful once again .We are honoured to win this award. Operations in all Dubai World companies always promote the eco-friendly concept."
Dubai World presented the Private Corporation Energy Award to Dubai Aluminium Company Ltd (Dubal) and the runner up award, which went to Union Properties.
After giving the award, Mr. Abdul Qader Obaid Ali said: "As oil and natural gas resources are abundant in UAE, it may be perceived that environmental awareness has to take a backseat here. But we are pleased that green building concept is rapidly gaining popularity in the construction sector."
The awards recognized winners and runner ups in six different criteria including The Public Corporation Energy Award, Private Corporation Energy Award, Energy Engineer Award, Major Energy Project Award, Minor Energy Project Award and Education and Research Award.
