Gary Chapman, President Group Services & Dnata, flagged off the licensed volunteer scuba divers from amongst Emirates Group staff, family and friends who spent the morning collecting over a tonne of rubbish from the Creek bed, which included plastic bags, tyres, cans, bottles and other miscellaneous debris.
Commenting on the event Mr. Chapman said:
"Dnata is actively involved in community and environmental activities. It's nice to be able to offer a practical contribution to such a good cause as well as raise awareness about the need to protect and preserve the Dubai Creek, a historic focal point of life in Dubai."
"The Creek has played a major role in the economic development achieved by Dubai and forms a major part of the city's natural environment. At the rate that Dubai is growing it is, unfortunately, also becoming increasingly polluted."
As in previous years, the "Creek Clean Up Campaign" was supported by Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police and the UAE Ministry of Environment.
As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Programme, Dnata organises a wide range of campaigns and activities in the areas of environment, humanitarian relief, charity and employee health and fitness.
Dnata is an investor partner of Dubai Quality Group, a corporate member of Emirates Environmental Group, and a founding member of CSR Network and Benchmarking Network.
