Welcare World and ENDP sign MoU to recruit UAE nationals

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 10 - 2007 at 15:26
  • PRESS RELEASE

Welcare World Health Systems (WWHS) and the Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the first Emiratisation training programme in the UAE's healthcare sector.

Under the MoU, signed by Azzah Al Sharhan, Director of ENDP, and Mr. Danie Meintjes, Director of Human Resources of WWHS, UAE Nationals will be recruited to work in WWHS's integrated local healthcare facilities that include hospitals, clinics and diagnostic and treatment centers.

The MoU was announced by His Excellency Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of ENDP, and James Patla, Chief Executive Officer of WWHS, at a press conference held at the ENDP offices.

The first specialised programme for recruiting UAE Nationals into the healthcare sector, the MoU between ENDP and WWHS will open up new career opportunities for young national job seekers with educational qualifications ranging from high school diplomas to Master's degrees. WWHS is the first private healthcare establishment to commit to such an agreement.

Al Tayer said: "The healthcare sector needs to recruit and train more UAE Nationals. We hope other healthcare institutions will follow the lead given by WWHS to offer career opportunities to UAE Nationals in this key sector.

"ENDP continues to serve young UAE Nationals by helping them to identify the right career opportunities. Currently, we have arrangements with several organisations in different sectors. We will continue to widen the scope of this programme to include more sectors in the future."

The objective of Welcare World Health Systems Mentoring and Preceptor-ship Programme is to create an educational and nurturing environment in which the UAE Nationals can successfully adjust to the healthcare environment and develop professionally. A 'preceptor' — an existing Welcare employee — will be available to supervise and guide each new recruit.

Danie Meintjes, Director of Human Resources - Welcare World, said: "WWHS is committed to providing the highest standards of health care and service. As part of this mission, we are equally committed to the government's emiratisation measures. Through providing education and career opportunities to young UAE Nationals in our integrated local healthcare establishments, we will be able to serve the society at large.

"Through a combination of ENDP training and the Welcare Mentoring and Preceptor-ship Programme, the new recruits will be integrated into the WWHS culture."

ENDP will continue to support the new recruits by enrolling them in a structured training programme at Welcare to ensure that each trainee is aware of the relevant responsibility.
Under the MoU, signed by Azzah Al Sharhan, Director of ENDP, and Mr. Danie Meintjes, Director of Human Resources of WWHS.

About ENDP

Emirates Nationals Development Programme was established in November 2005, under the directions of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Its objective was to empower UAE nationals and provide them with knowledge and skills necessary to start a career in various aspects of national economy, especially in the private sector.

On 17 June 2006, ENDP started receiving applications from unemployed UAE national job seekers through its website and special booths in malls.

ENDP adopts four strategies through acknowledging the market needs, attracting UAE nationals, training them, recruiting them and following up on their progress. Its activities are concentrated in sectors that have proved important for the national growth such as hospitality, trade, real estate, IT, banking, national conglomerates and semi governmental establishments.

ENDP has formed industry specific committees comprising of the leaders of various private sector companies that suggest solutions to problems hindering UAE nationals from joining the private sector, and discuss their training needs.
