Private Mobile Networks Ltd, the UK provider of private GSM network technology, today announced that their business partnership with DigitalSkys Limited, which has already resulted in the deployment of private GSM cells for specialist remote Oil and Gas services within the Middle East.
The solutions provide localised GSM coverage from standard mobile handsets using low powered GSM technologies from Private Mobile Networks with backhaul connections through the DigitalSkys VSAT Satellite network.
The project, which has evolved over the last year and required extensive development work to ensure its quality operation over the DigitalSkys satellite networks as well as integration and interoperability with their wide range of voice solutions, commenced with the successful implementation and installation of DigitalSkys core GSM hardware into their satellite hub infrastructure, located at the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority Teleport. The installation has now been operating for over 6 months.
"The project has gone extremely well to date and we are targeting specialist niche areas, such as military, rescue and emergency services, oil and gas, remote exploration and private corporate networks as initial markets," reported Gavin Wehlburg, Director - Operations for DigitalSkys.
"As longer term opportunities, we are able to operate on our own or as an extension to other GSM Mobile Operators, which is an important consideration for them, where they are constrained in expanding or extending their own networks, either in last mile costs and/or infrastructure deployment, which we are able to do so quickly and cost effectively utilising our VSAT networks with or without a wireless backhaul component," added Wehlburg.
DigitalSkys ("Your Wireless Gateway to the World") will be exhibiting at GulfComms / GITEX on stand Z-E30 Zabeel Hall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 8th to 12th September 2007. Under an IP-PBX umbrella of Communications they will be presenting a variety of voice over satellite solutions
