Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain celebrates the new nursing students

RCSI-MUB welcomed 75 new nursing students in the annual reception held by the University at Palm Hall, Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.

The University's Founding President Professor Kevin O'Malley expressed his pleasure meeting the new students and wished them a great year with lots of success.

He said "We exert diligent efforts to provide the highest internationally recognized medical education standards in the Kingdom of Bahrain which is an international leader in health care education. We aim to provide the hospitals and medical facilities in both Bahrain and the rest of the region with qualified and highly educated professionals."

The University aims, via such event, to welcome the students and their parents and provide them with the opportunity to meet the faculty in a family atmosphere. The university also aims to help the students being familiarized with the university life and its requirements as part of its strategy to offer the best and most appropriate educational environment."

The Director of the School of Nursing, Ms Batool Al Mohandis addressed the new students at the reception "You underwent a number of stages and were selected carefully. Our mission is to make sure that you are able to meet the requirements of the 4-year nursing program. Here, I urge you to be extremely poised for the hard-work ahead."

Al Mohandis confirmed "Due to the increasing applications of the school of nursing we decided to increase the accepted applicants 50% in comparison with last year. Accordingly we have elevated our competence to meet the increase in numbers."

Among the main speakers in the reception were Ms. Jo Hinrichsen, Medical Faculty Administrator and Mr. Riyadh Dhaif, Assistant Registrar who highlighted some basic tips and instructions. Representatives from the Labor Fund, Bahrain Defense Force Medical Services and Shaikh Mohammed Bin Salman Al Khalifa Cardiac Centre attended the reception.

Professor O'Malley added "RCSI-MUB boasts a cosmopolitan atmosphere with its students and faculty's members representing various nationalities and worldwide cultures."

The Medical University of Bahrain (MUB), a constituent of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RSCI), has signed a Public Relations agreement with FP7 Bahrain to handle its communications plan and activities. RCSI-MUB, officially opened in Bahrain in October 2004 in the Seef District, provides healthcare education and training to world standards in Bahrain, drawing students from Bahrain, India, Italy, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and Yemen.
In March 2006, the foundation stone for the new RCSI-MUB campus in Muharraq has been jointly laid by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Mary Harney. The University's new BD 10-plus million campus will occupy an area of 90,000sqm and will be built in phases starting with the central administration and medical teaching building and student accommodation which should be fully operational by mid 2008. In September 2006 the school of Nursing has opened its doors for students where it is considered the first non governmental nursing school in Bahrain that gives a bachelor's degree and other schools in the fields of pharmacy, physiotherapy and dentistry will be added to the campus at a later phase.
