Abdulrahman Kalantar, Director of The Design Group, Nakheel, formally accepted the award at the ceremony held at The Grand Hyatt hotel, Dubai, commenting:
'It is a great pleasure to accept this award on behalf of my team, who has worked with great effort and determination. The title is also significant for Nakheel, as a whole. Nakheel is not only developing some of the world's most visionary projects, but continues to lead the way in terms of designing and implementing Health, Safety and Environment policies.'
Nakheel, whose iconic projects include The Palm Jumeirah and The World, was awarded Runner-Up in the Major Energy Project Award. A series of energy saving measures were introduced by The Design Group in the construction of the 20 Shoreline Apartment buildings located on The Palm Jumeirah, in the three main areas of cooling, hot water preparation, lighting and power.
Serban Alexandru, Nakheel Head of Utilities, commented:
'Nakheel regards The Palm Jumeirah as a truly innovative project, which sets the standards for all of our future developments; we implemented the best energy efficiency standards when creating the design brief for this project.'
'We looked at all energy consuming devices, such as lighting, ventilation and pumps, and analyzed the best possible design solutions to meet demand, as well as any suitable way to decrease the demand. Project evaluation was performed by detailed calculations of energy consumption. The total yearly savings resulting from the implementation of the energy efficient design were 20,554,667 AED.'
As Abdulrahman Kalantar, Director of The Design Group, Nakheel, noted:
'Nakheel is much more than a real-estate developer and the Emirates Energy Award clearly demonstrates this. Nakheel constantly defies expectations on many levels, raising standards that many, in the market, can only strive to follow.'
