- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, September 13 - 2007 at 13:10
- PRESS RELEASE
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, today appointed board members of the Dubai Women and Children Foundation
Headed by Ahmad bin Obaid Al Mansoori, the board includes Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim Al Khayyat as Vice President, and Aisha Ahmed Al Marri, Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Sharla Musabih, Alya Gerini, Dr. Asma Abdullah Al Ghurair, and Abdullah Mohammed Bin Sougat as the members.
The board members, with a three-year renewable term of office, will appoint an Executive Director to oversee the functions of the Foundation.
The Dubai Women and Children Foundation aims to provide victimised women and children with shelter and periodic counselling. Apart from helping them secure a sustainable source of income, experts will also resolve their financial and legal issues, and will help in the repatriation of abused expats if they wish to.
Al Mansoori said: "The Foundation will deal with issues related to the abuse of victims, and seek to rehabilitate them. We will work in line with the UAE's efforts to protect the privileges of the afflicted women and children in accordance with the international convention on human rights."
The Foundation was established in July this year under a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Foundation will function with budget allocations, in addition to grants, donations and contributions from government and non-government organisations.
