AIESEC is an international student platform, present in over 110 universities worldwide and encompassing over 23,000 members. The organization helps young people to discover and develop their potential and provides over 4000 international internship opportunities each year.
Stella Grancheva, president of the UAE branch of AIESEC, noted that the office at ADWC will be the organization’s first branch in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Ms. Grancheva met with ADWC students on Tuesday, 11th September, to discuss the benefits of participating in the organization, including gaining a proactive attitude, nurturing self-awareness through goal-setting, challenging perceptions of the world, building networks of support, and developing skills and knowledge to increase the capacity to have a positive impact on society.
The local chapter on ADWC’s campus will enable the most proactive students to develop leadership skills and gain practical experience by executing projects around the theme of “Energy and Bridging the Gap Between Arab Countries and the Western World.” AIESEC plans to recruit up to 30 female members, ten of whom will have a chance to participate in AIESEC’s Global Internship Program and live and work abroad for two months.
“What excites me about Abu Dhabi is the fact that this chapter results from the desire of the local students to be part of the organization,” said Ms. Grancheva. “We’ve had the chance to meet amazing local girls who want to prove themselves, and AIESEC is a platform which can enable them.”
Earlier this year, two ADWC students received their international work placement assignments through AIESEC’s Qiyada Programme which gives UAE National students an opportunity to work abroad. The two students, Iman Mohamed Ibrahim and Shareena Al Muwaijaei, shared their experiences with ADWC students, explaining that the opportunity helped them to understand their own capabilities, gave them a sense of self-motivation, and increased their self-esteem. Fatima Al Wahedi, a recent ADWC graduate, also shared her experience of attending an international AIESEC conference in Turkey.
The students encouraged ADWC undergraduates to take full advantage of the opportunities AIESEC provides to further enhance their college experience.
