As part of their summer program, the Arch-Youths welcomed Reef Island's invitation to this educational gathering hoping to get a glimpse at the future of architecture in Bahrain and to see how theories are being put into practice.

Waleed Hayek, the project manager for Reef Island, focused on the principles of New Urbanism that will be implemented on the Island to reduce cluster and eliminate sprawl with buildings and recreational areas arranged to foster a sense of community closeness.
Hayek explained the importance of the beauty aspects: the green landscapes, the elegant apartments, the sumptuous villas, the five-star hotel and spa, the marina and the parks in distinguishing the project and in attracting investors and end-consumers that are looking for the ultimate lifestyle.

In an attempt to add value to the students' learning experience, Hayek expanded on several technical aspects of Reef Island including the district cooling system which would eliminate the need for individual water cooling machines therefore would reduce noise levels and
maximize on terrace and rooftop leisure spaces.

Hayek shed light on several of the island's unique features. First, the signature bridge designed by a well renowned architect. Second, the Icon Tower, the only high rise building on the island, which is intended to be the island's landmark and can be seen from a distance. Third, the 49 Beach Villas that were designed by 11 different architects from around the globe thus creating an exceptional harmonious blend of architectural styles.

Arch-Youths' member Mahdi Al Jallawi said "Reef Island first caught our attention during BIPEX of 2006. This visit has given us an opportunity to have our questions on the overall concept and project answered. We are fascinated as architects to see a project of this scale not solely focused on commercial return. Instead we saw the power of architectural thought take precedence over purely commercial goals. This was reflected clearly in the Island's aesthetic designs." He continued to say, "This educational gathering was a great learning experience as well. Many technical issues were addressed and terms explained which will be beneficial to our studies and future projects."

In his turn, Hayek thanked the Arch-Youths for their interest in Reef Island and extended an invitation to have them visit the Marketing Tent in November where the $2million motorized model of the Reef Island will be displayed. Finally, Hayek expressed admiration and content to have been able to interact with Arch-Youths who will be playing an "integral role in changing the architectural face of the Kingdom."
