Deployed in conjunction with Nortel's channel partner, MDS PACC, the upgraded infrastructure consolidates all campus communications into a reliable, scalable easy-to-manage and secure IP network. The network also allows AUD to extend new services like VoIP and multimedia communications in the future without the cost of major network improvements.

"Our university encourages collaborative learning through the use of the most current communications technologies. Our virtual working environments allow our instructors and students to share educational content and resources." said Frank Seifaee, Information Technology Services Manager, AUD.

"Nortel Ethernet solutions help our university create learning communities where everyone is connected to each other; so they can easily communicate and collaborate in real-time for enhanced research and resource sharing."
"The new network from Nortel is an excellent example of how technology can improve services and provide a collaborative educational experience across a campus," said Ramin Attari, vice president, Middle East, Nortel.

"Nortel's educational solutions extend the classroom across the campus and beyond, delivering information and learning on demand. Institutions can also use these new technologies to generate new revenues, reduce traditional communications costs and deliver new value to students, faculty and staff."

AUD's campus network solution is based on the Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) portfolio that includes Nortel's Ethernet Routing Switches 8600, offering scalable resiliency through SMLT and Ethernet Routing Switches 3510 and 5520 designed to provide high-density Gigabit desktop connectivity and Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability. Network Management is based on Nortel's Enterprise Network Management System.
