- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, September 18 - 2007 at 12:08
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Customs participated in Gitex 2007 Exhibition by active involvement in 'Gitex Technology Week' conventions, held along with the Exhibition.
The lecture showed the reliance on technology in processing the Customs work, which saves time and effort on both the staff and customers, leading to paperless working environment.
Fadi Hindi, the IT Strategic Planning and Enterprise Architecture Manager at Dubai Customs , delivered a presentation entitled: "keeping pace with growth: focus on public sector" in a session which witnessed the participation of Otto Schily, the member of the German Parliament and representatives from international IT companies, such as IBM and Novell.
In his lectures, Hindi summarized the goals of Dubai Customs and the vital role it plays in protecting society from the dangers of harmful goods and theviolation of intellectual property rights, in addition to its role in safeguarding the economy.
"The large projects that are under development in Dubai will inevitably increase the volume of Dubai Customs work, which is expected to grow in the coming few years by 300 per cent. The number of customs transactions is also anticipated to hit 12 million by the year 2010, while the number now is three million," he added.
Hindi concluded that this significant growth in operations requires the development of quality services and a reliance on state-of-the-art technology to be able to meet the great potential demand for customs services, which will be generated after the completion of Jebel Ali Airport that will feature six runways, added to two other runways in Dubai International Airport.
This is in addition to 15,000 km of coastal lines resulted from the erection of a big number of human-made islands (Palm Islands and the World). Jebel Ali Logistics City is also expected to harbor more than 750,000 workers.
