Nissan beats Green Program targets

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., announced lately the progress report on its recycling efforts for the fiscal year 2006.
The company has also exceeded 2010 targets set by its own Nissan Green programme. The progress report focused on three key areas which included Automobile Shredder Residue, Airbag-related components and Fluorocarbons.
During 2006, Nissan recycled 95,240 of 128,827 of automobile shredder residue recovered from 635,440 vehicles. The recovery ratio of 73.9 per cent exceeds the 70 per cent required by law and already puts Nissan in compliance with 2015 requirements.
The company has also scored highly on its environmental treatment of airbag-related components and fluorocarbons. Under the Nissan Green environmental action programme, it plans to accelerate recycling efforts to achieve an average 95 per cent recovery for end-of-life vehicles by 2010.
"For Nissan as an automaker, raising the recovery rate of end-of-life vehicles remains a high priority. Our aim is to contribute to the creation of a sustainable automobile society through environmentally friendly recycling. To achieve this, we aim to facilitate the implementation of the 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle-in both design and development" commented Toru Hasegawa, Managing Director at Nissan Middle East Fze.
In keeping with the Nissan Green Program, the company will continue with its efforts to reach the ultimate recovery ratio of 100 percent, recycling all materials from end-of-life vehicles into usable resources.
