In Dubai, this campaign will be strongly evident as not one, but four of Dubai's most famous landmarks will be illuminated in pink at select times throughout October, as a show of support to the cause: The Burj Al Arab hotel, The Dubai Creek Golf Club's Creek tent, The Grand Hyatt Hotel and The Bateaux Dubai (floating restaurant, cruising along Dubai creek)
"Pink illuminations of these amazing landmarks will clearly be the most publicly visible display of our campaign", said Didier Picard, Vice president/General Manager Estee Lauder Middle East. "Toward that end, the Company is launching a new Campaign this year, which is 'Win the Fight on Breast Cancer,' to signify the importance of bringing people together to fight breast cancer until there is a cure. The new Campaign will be featured at our brands' counters in the UAE, Middle East and around the world beginning of October. Most of all, our iconic pink ribbons will be available and we encourage everyone to wear them this month and buy pink products."
Estee Lauder Middle East has also tied up with several corporations and key people in the health community to conduct high profile awareness and charitable activities throughout the month of October, such as presentations on breast cancer awareness, fund raisers and promotions, for example the Park Hyatt Hotel is offering 20% donation from 'Pampered in Pink' Package Spa Treatments booked during the month of October in partnership with The Estee Lauder Companies. The funds will go to the breast cancer Research Foundation of the Emirates, founded by Dr. Houriya Kazim, one of UAE's leading breast cancer surgeons.
Dr. Kazim has been a supportive partner to the breast cancer awareness campaign started by Estee Lauder in the Middle East for several years.
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the world today and the most common
cause of cancer-related deaths among women. According to the World Health
Organization, more than 1.2 million people worldwide will be diagnosed with breast
cancer this year. The good news is that mortality rates are declining in all women and this is believed to be the result of early detection and more effective treatments.
"The battle is not yet won in the fight to beat breast cancer, but we are getting close,"
said Evelyn H. Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Founder and Chairman of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. "Today, there are more scientific leads than ever before, yet government funding for breast cancer research continues to decline. That is why, now more than ever, we must raise our voices even higher and continue to raise funds for research."
"I am especially grateful to our Company's brands, our employees and our many
partners, who for 15 years have been in lockstep with us in this battle. Their commitment
and dedication year after year has helped many women and their families survive this
disease and helped fund cutting-edge research for prevention and a cure," said Lauder.
"Our efforts are making a difference, but this fight is not yet over," she said. "We must
persist and continue to pursue what we all believe is attainable in our lifetime — a world
without breast cancer."
In the Middle East, 6 Estee Lauder Companies' brands will join forces to help raise money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation this October: Estee Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Darphin, Aramis & Designer Fragrances. These brands will display counter information, distribute pink ribbons and hand out informational materials regarding breast health.
In recognition, Estee Lauder would like to thank the following Companies/individuals for their gracious support to this year's campaign:
-Government of Dubai, UAE
-The Ministry of Health - UAE
-Park Hyatt Hotel - Dubai
-Burj Al Arab Hotel - Dubai
-Grand Hyatt Hotel - Dubai
-Dubai Creek Club
-Bateaux Dubai
-Dr. Houriya Kazim
-Reprotronics LLC.
-Import Porter Novelli - PR Agency

Across the world, the fight continues
In 2006, more than 150 landmarks were illuminated. Highlights included The Grand Hyatt Hotel and Burj Al Arab Dubai, Taipei 101 Tower in Taiwan (currently the tallest building in the world), The Empire State Building and the St. Louis Arch in the United States, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Niagara Falls in Canada and the Brandenburg Gate in Germany.
That is why Evelyn Lauder will once again travel around the globe this October with
Elizabeth Hurley, Estée Lauder and Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Spokesmodel.
The two women will raise awareness through a series of high-profile Public Appearance
and Illumination events. In 2000, the Company launched its Global Landmarks
Illumination Initiative and since then hundreds of well-known landmarks around the
world have been bathed in pink lights to raise awareness and inspire action.
"This October, we want to encourage people around the world to put on a pink ribbon,
buy a pink product and help us spread our awareness message," said Elizabeth Hurley.
"We should tell every woman we know — whether our mother, grandmother, sister,
daughter or girlfriend — that it is very important to check their breasts and that they need to go to their doctors for a mammogram every year, if they are over the age of 40. Don't
leave it for an extra year, because if you get a mammogram once a year, at the very latest your cancer is only 364 days old."
The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. is one of the world's leading manufacturers and
marketers of quality skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products. Since 1992,
it has been at the forefront of increasing global awareness of breast cancer. The
Company was the first to distribute pink ribbons and informational materials at its
cosmetic counters worldwide (over 65 million ribbons and 65 million brochures and
bookmarks to date); encourage governments to dedicate a day, week or the month of
October to Breast Cancer Awareness; enlist support from the world's First Ladies; and
facilitate global press coverage by lighting monuments all over the world to stress the
importance of early detection and treatment.
These combined actions reached over 1
billion people for the past three years in a row. Sales of specially designated pink beauty
products support the Company's donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation,
which supports cutting-edge breast cancer research in the United States and abroad,
as well as to other breast cancer charities internationally.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as
an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to funding innovative
clinical and genetic research. The Foundation supports scientists at top universities and
academic medical centers worldwide conducting the most advanced and promising
breast cancer research that will lead to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. A minimum
of 85 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer
research and awareness programs.
To date, the Foundation has raised more than $175
million, and in October 2006 it awarded over $24.3 million to 115 researchers across the
U.S. and in Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Israel. Money magazine named BCRF
one of America's eight top charities. And for the sixth consecutive year, BCRF received
Charity Navigator's highest rating, four stars, thus outperforming most other charities in
America.
