The solutions will soon be available for all Etisalat's mobile customers.

This implementation of the Near Field Communication (NFC) contactless technology will bring immense convenience and benefit to customers, allowing users to execute day-to-day payments by simply waving their mobile phones near a device at bus stations, retail outlets, cinemas and more. It would also be possible for customers to use this service to pay for everyday needs such as parking tickets, negating the need to carry exact change.

The NFC technology operates within a 4 centimetre range and it can be made even more secure by using a personalized PIN. The NFC solution is fast and simple, with the entire transaction being completed instantly. This solution will help reduce the long queues at parking meters or ticket sale counters.

This technology is already proven to be reliable and appreciated by customers in countries such as Germany, France, Japan and Korea. Etisalat will be the first Middle Eastern operator to introduce the NFC.

Etisalat demonstrated the usage of this technology on its GITEX 2007 stand together with Oberthur Card Systems. A commercial trial will start in the last quarter of 2007 and will be followed by more application through out 2008.
