Dubai Chamber hosts training courses for shipping industry staff

Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry recently hosted a number of training courses and qualification seminars organized by the Dubai Shipping Agents' Association (DSAA) to train and enhance the awareness of those working in maritime shipping sector about shipping laws and regulations and other issues related to maritime insurance and types and carriers of cargo.
Omar Abdul Aziz Khan, Business Networking Manager at Dubai Chamber, highlighted the importance of these maritime shipping courses which go in line with Dubai Chamber's strategy in activating communication and interaction among its members and supply them with the knowledge they need to help them improve their businesses up to international standards.
"Dubai Chamber is keen to educate its members who work in the shipping industry sector and provide them with up-to-date developments related to their sector such as the laws that regulate their shipping business, in addition to Dubai Chamber's support to the shipping business group which operates under its umbrella," said Khan.
He stressed Dubai Chamber's interest in strengthening its relations with the DSAA and the shipping business group, as well as providing its members with the latest issues and regulations of shipping sector according to the best practices applied in Dubai which enjoys the busiest and most active seaports in the region.
Almas Zaheer, Chairman of Legal & Technical Committee of DSAA, said that the training programs arranged by the association at Dubai Chamber aimed at professionally training the shipping staff and enhancing their awareness about the best practices in shipping. He pointed out that these training courses were initiated responding to the trainees' interest in acquiring professional skills and knowledge in their field.
"We highly appreciate Dubai Chamber's interest in supporting the activities of our DSAA through helping us holding these training seminars to supply our members with the necessary tools that would help them improve their businesses through comparing with the best practices applied in Dubai and the world," said Zaheer.
The issues discussed at the training courses include an introduction to shipping, ICC UCP 600, dray cargo chartering, bills of lading & related frauds and maritime laws.
The DSAA, which represents all shipping agents working in Dubai, helps its members develop their work and facilitate their business at the ports of Dubai. It is a non-profit organization that was established to take care of shipping agents and facilitate their interaction with the government authorities, and foster the future development of the shipping industry in Dubai.
