Gargash Enterprises supports UAE Genetic Diseases Association

Gargash Enterprises, General Distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, have announced that in the spirit of Ramadan, they will be donating AED 500 from every car sold during the holy month to charity.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, the UAE GDA was established to reduce the impact of common genetic disorders prevalent in the UAE. The first project of the UAE GDA, Emirates Free of Thalassaemia 2012, is aimed at identifying Beta-Thalassaemia carriers in the UAE pre-marital population.
As well as screening for such genetic disorders, the program will facilitate communication and publication of scientific knowledge, promote health education and research in genetics, and offer genetic counseling. A central objective of the project already achieved was the screening of college 4000 students to determine the incidence of the Thalassaemia disease. Through this key research, it was determined that 12% of the UAE population are carriers.

Speaking on behalf of the whole team, the Executive Director of Gargash Enterprises stated, "We have been blessed with the rewards of a successful business, and it is our duty to give back to the community. Ramadan is the month of giving and although one should always carry forth a generous mindset, the holy month is a perfect time to start."
