Produced water is a majorly increasing issue for the oil and gas industry. While operators inject it into wells to assist in production and recovery, as fields mature rising quantities of this water are recovered along with oil and gas.

Making up 98% of the waste generated by the industry it's by far the biggest byproduct, and safely handling these quantities is an expensive task that eats into profit margins.

Oil and gas operators are responding to the issue with innovative techniques that not only economically manage this waste product, but can actually transform it from an expensive nuisance into a recovery optimizing tool that boosts profits.

These pioneering methods will be revealed at the 2nd Annual Produced Water Management Summit, which is taking place on 2 - 5 December 2007 at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah in Muscat, Oman.

Opening the conference will be Chairman Colin Tyrie, from the Produced Water Society who will be outlining the challenges the industry currently faces.

Giving the keynote session at this conference is Salman Al Qabandi, Team Leader; Water Handling West Kuwait will be outlining a proactive produced water strategy that saves money in the short and long-term.

Salman claims 'The conference is very important for us to share and exchange out experiences and ideas regarding the managing of water in our facilities. This conference will add value by seeing how other companies or areas manage their water in a more effective manger.'

Representatives from Saudi Aramco, Chevron, Oil India and EGAS will be giving exclusive case study presentations at the conference.

A highlight of this summit is two days of topic focused workshops that challenge the effectiveness of alternative produced water treatment and management techniques.
