Qanat Al Qasba showcases photo exhibition on 'Mosques Around the World'

A photography exhibition titled 'Mosques Around the World' was inaugurated by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at Qanat Al Qasba today.

The exhibition that portrays over 150 photographs of the most beautiful and unique mosques around the world was opened in the presence of Jamal Salem Al Teraifi Director General of Awqaf General Trust and Marwan Jassim Al Sarakl, CEO of Qanat Al Qasba Development Authority, VIP's, officials and media representatives.

The exhibition which is being held at the Maraya Al Qanat - Gallery Hall will continue until the 8th of October 2007 from 8:30 pm to 12 am daily.

Organised by the Awqaf General Trust as part of the Islamic Art Festival in association with the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, this is the first time such an exhibition, bringing over 150 photographs of mosques from more than 48 countries has been open to the public. This unique exhibition portrays a wide variety of mosques different in style and stature across the globe.

Highlighting mosques from different cultures and such as Russia, Pakistan, India, Sweden, Far East Countries, GCC countries and Turkey, the photographs bespeak volumes of history and culture and showcase some amazing architectural designs highlighting the spread of Islam across the world.

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi also made a tour to review the exhibition of Iraqi artist Mahmood Hassan titled 'Wejdaniat' featuring 35 artworks made of ceramic. Hassan's calligraphy and various artworks that have a strong Islamic influence have been hailed as one of the most exquisite in modern Arabic art.

The ongoing activities of Qanat Al Qasba's 'Ramadaniat Al Qasba' celebrations were also toured by the dignitaries. Ramadaniat al Qasba which is being organized for the third consecutive year has become a landmark event during the holy month, attracting visitors from around the UAE as well as tourists.

Ramadaniat al Qasba is alive with a host of family activities this month including 'Fawazeer Al Qasba', the popular riddle event, the Fawanees Al Qasba Tent where a perfect Arabian Nights ambience is recreated with the help of traditional lights and 'Zaman Awal', the 'Peek into the Past' event providing visitors with a wonderful opportunity to experience the traditional Emirate way of life. Al Eman Oasis, featuring Islamic lectures, includes a comprehensive Islamic library to browse through or buy.

Qanat Al Qasba is home to a Fun Zone for children, a supervised playground and a variety of games and tournaments including the Al Qasba Volleyball Tournament organized in association with the UAE Volleyball Union this Ramadan.

Besides the special Ramadan activities, visitors can also enjoy the daily happenings at Qanat Al Qasba including savouring the ware from some of the best dining destinations in Sharjah, an Abra boat ride under the stars and a ride in the Eye of the Emirates, the tallest observatory wheel in the region.
