Crystal Lagoons making a splash at Cityscape

- PRESS RELEASE
The creators of the world's largest swimming pool - equivalent in size to 6,000 standard residential pools - are in advance negotiations with Middle East companies on bringing their technology to the region.
The company involved is Crystal Lagoons, which has created an artificial lagoon and swimming pool in the South American resort of San Alfonso del Mar in Chile eight hectares in size and containing 250,000 cubic metres of water. The clear water lagoon has been acknowledged as the largest swimming pool in the world by Guinness World Records 2007.
The Chilean development has also topped the Orthlieb pool in Casablanca, Morocco, as the longest swimming pool in the world. The Moroccan pool is 150 metres by 100 metres (1.5 hectares) and Crystal Lagoon's Chilean pool is one kilometre long.
"The next few months will be key in confirming the construction of artificial lagoons in other international resorts and negotiations with companies in the Middle East are in advanced stages," the company said. "We are looking for joint ventures and franchise opportunities in different parts of the world."
The Crystal Lagoon concept is being incorporated into projects around the world and the company is in discussion with both Nakheel and the Dubai Property Group.
The Crystal Lagoon technology creates artificial lagoons with crystal clear water, transparent to a depth of 35 metres and with the intense turquoise blue colour of tropical seas.
The creator, biochemist and Chilean businessman Fernando Fischmann, will be at Cityscape to outline the technology in detail. He said: "These crystal clear lagoons form impressive artificial paradises, even in inhospitable areas, with low construction and maintenance costs.
"It is a technological process and a one of a kind architectural concept adaptable to forests, marshes, deserts, urban areas or areas without beaches. They can also be created on overcrowded or eroded coastlines, contaminated seas or rivers and dangerous or inhospitable beaches."
Fischmann said the technology of Crystal Lagoons means that artificial lagoons and pools can be created containing unlimited volumes of clear water. "This advance provides something that until now was not technically possible - the generation of monumental masses of water in a crystalline state to provide a beach life environment and aquatic sports at the top level," he added.
